Flooring for a Design-Conscious Mom with a House Full of Boys

Screen shot 2016-01-08 at 4.15.15 PM

Northhampton Plank in Shelton Pecan luxury vinyl plank becomes the flooring of choice for this busy mom.

The best part is that the colour I chose blends perfectly with the house as it is now and will look even better as I renovate more areas to match my style. Floor-first design is essential to any home renovation. Starting this home renovation and design update with the flooring has helped solidify the style and really pull all the rooms together.
We’ve already had pool parties, sleepovers, dinner parties and doggy friends over with great success. The floor has been easy to clean and maintain – even the boys can have it looking great in no time. There have been food spills, LEGO bricks, dog footprints, a misplaced water balloon and who knows what else already on the floor and you’d never know it.”

Making a Bold Statement in the Master Bath

Screen shot 2014-11-12 at 4.28.59 PMWe just finished up this Master Bath Project: Soaker tub surround using Euro glass tile accents in this contemporary tone-on-tone brown. This tile offers a combination of textured, glossy and frosted finishes, to create a truly alluring effect.

Our installation team did an amazing job with the grout work, transitions and edge-moulding.

Paint: PPG’s watery teal “Teal We Meet Again” liven’s up the deep greys and warm browns in the tile.

What’s on Trend for 2015

Screen shot 2014-11-07 at 2.31.10 PMOn Trend for 2015: The colour experts at PPG call it “IntroSense”: described as soulful, quality and peace. The trend introduces a new direction in minimalistic styling that blends clean, pared-down designs with quiet nature.

Screen shot 2014-11-07 at 2.55.18 PMPair up this paint palette with Shaw’s “Napa Plank” porcelain (vineyard and wood barrel textured finish). Perfect for wine country!

Or this porcelain tile, with the appearance of Calcutta gold marble by Ames. These elements are calming, quiet and muffled. The colour palette includes a nuanced neutral with a subtle hint of blue-green paired with muffled off-whites and grays, and then anchored by a silent black.Screen shot 2014-11-07 at 2.34.38 PM

Finish Your Flooring With Coordinated Moldings

Coordinating moldings are available for most styles and colours of hardwood flooring. These hardwood accessories add that finished and complete look to your flooring installation. Stairnose Create transitions for steps in your home. Buy the Overlap Stairnose for floors that have been installed using the floating installation method. Buy the Flush Stairnose for hardwood that has been nailed or glued down. Screen shot 2014-09-09 at 8.26.34 PM

Reducer When your hardwood flooring meets other floor coverings, such as vinyl, thin ceramic tile, or low-pile carpeting, use the Overlap Reducer for floors installed with the floating installation method, and the Flush Reducer on hardwood floors that have been nailed or glued down. Threshold Typically used at exterior doorways, threshold moldings transition between flooring and the doorway threshold. It can also be used as a transition from wood floors to different flooring surfaces when the reducer won’t do, such as on high-pile carpet or thick ceramic tile. Screen shot 2014-09-09 at 8.28.17 PM

T-Molding T-Molding is commonly used in doorways to join two wood floors in adjoining rooms. It’s also recommended when making transitions from a wood floor to another floor that is approximately the same height. T-Molding is also used to provide expansion joints when a floor dimension exceeds a length of 40′ or a width of 30′. Screen shot 2014-09-09 at 8.29.20 PM

Quarter Round Hardwood flooring must be installed with expansion space between the flooring and the wall because it naturally expands and contracts. This molding not only adds a finishing touch, but conceals the expansion space. It may also be used under cabinets where wall base won’t fit or at the base of a stairway.
